Commission A Pipe

Commissioning a pipe might seem daunting, especially if you’ve never done it before. It also varies from pipe maker to pipe maker. The very first step is to reach out and let me know that you are interested in commissioning a pipe and I’ll walk you through the rest.

Looking for a one-of-a-kind Pipe?

A commissioned Jason Patrick Pipe might be just what you are looking for.

Most people commission a Jason Patrick Pipe because they see something I’ve done and would like me to make something similar for them. Some might just want a pipe and leave it up to me to figure out what to make. In that case, I ask more questions about their interests/life and make something I think will reflect who they are/what they do/how they smoke.

If someone knows what they want, the only question I ask is, “Will I love making that pipe?” There are times when people ask me to make a pipe that looks like someone else’s creation, or ask me to make something I don’t think will look good. I won’t make a pipe I don’t think will look good, and I won’t copy someone else’s design.

Pricing

My sandblasted pipes range from $250 to $375. My smooth pipes have a starting price of $400, but can increase in price from there. The main variables that impact the pricing are shape, accent/accent material, and the quality/grade of the briar block.

Pipes from my Basic Line are priced at $250. These pipes are either a Lovat or an Apple shape with a mouthpiece cut off. These pipes aren’t customizable and there are no accents.

Pipes from my Classic Line are priced at $350. The shapes included are Billiard, Lovat, Apple, Rhodesian, and the Dublin. They feature a ring sandblast, an Argentium Silver ring, and a German Ebonite mouthpiece.

If you’re like most people, you like the pipes I make/style I make them in, and want something that fits that style. You might have some details like shape and overall size/weight, but are willing to leave the rest up to me to interpret. That works well.

The sweet spot of commissions is for an individual to have something custom created while still giving the artisan the autonomy to make a pipe they love.

The very first step is to reach out and let me know that you are interested in commissioning a pipe.

You can expect to wait at least a month and up to 3 months for a commissioned pipe from me. At the time I’m writing this, I have had about 10 pipes on my commission list at all times in 2024. As I work my way through them I add more to the list. About half of my pipes are commissioned pieces.

I only do commissions for sandblasted pipes. The reason for this is that I can not pre-determine if a block will yield a smooth pipe.
